Milkshaw Benedict
Yuuuurp. Milkshaw Benedict, a singer-songwriter rap-extraordinaire, hailing from Roxbury, Massachusetts is the living embodiment of Boston’s Black soul. His mindset mirrors the community he’s from — a community unique in style, experiences, and culture. The distinctiveness of Roxbury can be felt in the residents you met, the murals and street art, and the damn good food. Bringing this rich history and vibrant culture to life through music is what Milkshaw’s projects are all about.
As a child, Milkshaw’s life was consumed with music. The son of a Jamaican DJ, beats, soul, and purpose were apart of Milk’s everyday world. Add to this the fact that his childhood home in the heart of Roxbury was only a few doors down from the Maurice Starr building – the location was New Edition recorded so many beloved records — music was always his destiny. Milk’s signature funk, command of the stage, and style are undoubtedly influenced by his favorite artist, Michael Jackson.
In the summer of 2019, Milk released his first album, Boston Block Party. This album is an ode to the 02119, that is, Roxbury, Massachusetts and everything that makes it and its residents magical. Milk also regularly creates, plans, and executes local music-based events for the community. Popular events include Love Letters to Black Women and The Sessions. This year, Milk is poised to release his sophomore album, The Process. This album, a departure from his freshman funk-based album, is an intellectual submersion into manhood, failure, success, love, and the journey of trajectory.
Milk honed his craft and embraced his talents because he wanted to share his experiences, community, and all of the colorful feelings that come with such passion with other humans. His work ethic, his mindset, and his empathy enable him to the confidence necessary to succeed.
